It’s a few years old and has never really caught on, but I honestly think that most EDP fans are locked up with the hardware version and not inclined toward software at all. ![]() This conversion to VST was done by Mathias Grob himself, who was the original creator of the platform. So if you can talk a Jeff Larson into letting you pick up the Source, or if you’re skilled enough to DL the Sooperlooper code from Sonosaurus ( ) and do a Windows port, I’m certain the Live Looping community would be sending you chocolates and flowers well into old age.Īdditionally, you may wish to take a look at the Mathon’s software port of the Echoplex Digital Pro ( ). Further development on both has ceased some time back, so most laptop loopers I know have a dedicated machine frozen in time and running older versions. What's your short list of Abelton plugins I should investigate?įirst off, noble ambitions here, so best of luck to you, truly.Īside from Ableton, Mobius and Sooperlooper have always been the software mainstays of the Live Looping community. In particular, I started writing Control Surfaces for my footboard, which seems extraordinarily powerful (just MIDI map is too weak). While I could switch to another DAW (Cubase supports Mobius in 32bit), I'm not crazy about abandoning the investments I've now made in Ableton - and Ableton does so much of the right stuff otherwise. MSuperLooper really wants to be run standalone but has a plugin - it's on my list. Sorting through the rest of the projects, I don't see that Augusts has the right features - notably tempo sync from Ableton back, and possibly the right kind of midi control. I have contacted Jeff to see if he'll let me rip at the source code - I am a professional programmer. I find Mobius, and a few videos that convince me it supports exactly the workflow I want - it's critical the plugin has the right exposed knobs to tie to the footswitch (which session mode in Ableton is a bit of a bear for).īut Mobius iss unavailable in 64 bit version on Windows, which means (simply) it's not an option in 2022 (yeah jbridge which everyone says may not work). Not really into the "songwriting" aspect. Possibly working with prerecorded grooves and such later. I want to lay in loops, multiple of them (3 to 5 or so), start them and stop them, sometimes overdub them, from a footswitch, with a small midi keyboard for laying in rhythm loops (drums but maybe interesting drones in the future), and access to All The Effects. I really just want to do what everyone else who live-loops does. I had ideas before, now I have ideas tempered with a touch of reality. I now know a lot more about the "workflow" I want on stage. I hadn't fully explored Ableton's looper. I did my first performance last weekend using Ableton's session mode and session clips exclusively, and let's say it was pretty good but ugly at times. I see people talking about RC-500 vs RC-600 and I just wonder where their head is at, given the state of software, but it's all good friends. ![]() ![]() No pedalboard, just a TON of pedals in the laptop (essentially). ![]() we should be in the age of software loops. Then I happened to run into a friend-of-a-friend who is also a cello looping live performer, and he showed me his Ableton rig. Cool! I bought a Singular Aeros, but didn't quite take to it. Poking my nose back in, and warming up my old RC-20, I see lots of new tech. Partially a dabbler, have been in bands on and off last 30 years, getting back to looping because as all my friends get older, pulling together time for practice is hard. TL DR Best loop plugin for Ableton Windows here-and-now for live instrumental looper?
